James Canyon Forest Freshies

Project. One line out an otherwise featureless roof, the landing out the ending takes a big drop off the edge of a small cliff.

Mostly jugs at the Cliffside Roof, the topouts are just over the edge of a nice 15 -20 ft drop.

April Ascents

Acheron SDS - Second Ascent from Blake McCord on Vimeo.

The gate to Woody Mountain road swung open a few weeks early this year, with great weather and perfect temps the psyche has been high. New lines are going up and old ones are being repeated. Check out this awesome video by Blake McCord of Thomas Maxson taking down the 2nd ascent of one of Choss Roof's best lines, Acheron sds.
Last week I managed to put up a nice roof in the Fernow Draw below BVB Roof, dubbed House of Cards V10. The start requires a powerful pull off a double undercling crimp to a large flat edge, then classic roof climbing through big crimps, tricky lip encounter and then a nice easy highball top out.

The Final line on Renegade was finished several weeks ago, EPLB Direct!
I also managed to send Antimatter at Priest Draw this past week. It felt good to put down and old nemesis project and was pretty psyched to climb at the draw after spending the last 6 months almost exclusively in the Hinterlands.
Been trying Broken Symmetry in Middle Elden Canyon, luckily this problem is accessible all year round and will just get better with colder weather. Thomas Maxson claimed the 2nd ascent recently, hopefully I can put it together for a shameful 3rd ascent...
Blobs power endurance training
Will there be enough time for an ascent of the Amazing Blimp Roof this season?

More from The Hinterlands

I finished one of my projects at choss roof this past week, and named it The River of Acheron V12. The name comes from ancient greek mythology and is one of the 5 rivers of the underworld that ferry souls across to the afterlife. Acheron is refferred to as the river of misery and also the border to hell. It traverses about 20 moves through the belly of the roof and then links into the third move of "choss roof". The sit start from the far right is still a project...
Went to Cherry Canyon this morning with Pat, by 9 a.m it was already warm, and everything felt greasy. I'm not going back there until it's cold.Photo:Pat Fitts

Choss Roof Project

I have been trying a new project at Choss Roof that will likely be the longest roof climb in Northern Arizona. The line traverses the belly of Choss roof with big shouldery moves, underclings and precise footwork. After about 22 moves you find yourself at the start of "Choss Roof" and have to finish out with a dyno then a hard compression refrigerator block, feet first lip encounter, immediately followed with a heartbreaker throw to a juggy block. Here's video of the new section of the roof and a cool problem on the left side with a big move off of a fish hooked mono.

BVB Roof Annihilation

Went out to BvB Roof with Andrew yesterday morning. He crushed BvB Roof on his first attempt of the day, and then went to work on The Sparkle Jockey(BVB Direct).Showing no fear of the wacked landing he quickly worked out the beta and claimed the 3rd ascent. The onslaught of the roof continued and I claimed the first ascent of The Vile Red Falcon( see nintendo classic Contra 1986), which starts on the super bvb roof and exits out the Sparkle Jockey. In the afternoon I went to Choss Roof with Coop and we got his truck stuck in the mud about 1 mile from the Roof. We abandoned the truck and carried as many pads as we could. The Battle of the Blobs was still dripping from last weekend's snow storm. Coop went to work on Choss Roof making good links and rewiring the beta, and I cleaned a new section, starting right about 25 ft which will link into the 3rd move of Choss Roof. Thanks to Jake for rescuing us from a long walk back to town. Will Post pictures of the new Choss roof project soon...here's video of some of the action from BVB Roof.
